Parents, through a parish-directed program, prepare their children for First Reconciliation and First Communion. Both sacraments are for children who have been baptized in the Catholic Church. St. Joseph’s Catholic Church has a two-year study program for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. The first year of program is during the child’s first grade of school. This first year focuses mainly on learning traditional catholic prayers. The second year of the program focuses on sacramental preparation.
We will be helping you instruct your children, providing you with the theology so that you will be able to teach your child what the Catholic Church believes. We will also provide the parents with a textbook and weekly quizzed to assist you in teaching your child. Each week at Mass your child will place their quiz in the collection basket.
We want this program to be available to all. If your child has been baptized in another parish, please obtain a recent copy of their Baptismal Certificate. This is a necessary requirement to make their First Communion. If your child has not been baptized, it will be necessary for them to receive the sacrament of Baptism first.
