Stewardship is not a name for a giving program or an idea created by the modern church.  It is a way of life and something that Jesus taught to the apostles and to his followers on many occasions.  It has a direct relationship to a person’s faith.  As Catholics, we recognize Jesus as the perfect steward or as One who perfectly managed His Father’s gifts in order to bring about the Kingdom of God.  Just as Jesus’ stewardship had a cost, - His life – so does ours.  The cost is our sacrificial giving of money, time, and talent.  Our stewardship requires us to draw closer to Christ by the giving of ourselves in gratitude for what we have received.  It is also necessary for us to recognize, as Jesus tells us, that as a steward we do not own what we are and what we have.  All that we have and are, is a gift from God who asks us to manage our gifts well in order to accomplish His will.
