About Newman Center

Newman Center Mission:

The mission of the Catholic Newman Center is to bring students and faculty of Black Hills State University to Jesus Christ through the Gospel and full participation in the life of the Church, challenging them to be faithful disciples and preparing them for their Christian mission in the world.

The Newman Club offers an opportunity for great fellowship, prayer, spiritual growth, service, fun activities and a family atmosphere while attending school.  Msgr. Woster, and Fr. Trask will help our group find room for Christ in a busy campus life.

The Club meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month from 7:15 to 8:00 p.m. in the Swartz Room.

The Newman Leadership's objective is to build a Newman Center that is more accessible abd visible to the students and faculty of the BHSU campus, and to support and strengthen the faith of the Catholic students and young adults during a critical transitional time of their lives.  It is our hope that the Students will take the spiritual gifts they have received through their ministries and share those gifts with others wherever their careers and vocations lead them.  We are committed to serving the spiritual needs of all students and faculty who choose to be a part of our Newman Center Family.

The BHSU Newman Club is based out of the St. Joseph's Newman Center

What is the Newman Club?

The Newman Club is a Catholic Student Organization on the campus of Black Hills State University.  The focus of the Newman Club is strengthening and keeping the Catholic faith while at Black Hills State University.  It provides spiritual and social growth opportunities as well as support for not only Catholic and not-Catholic students, but also for faculty and staff members.

Name

The organization name comes from Cardinal John Henry Newman.  Cardinal Newman was a 19th Century leader who was very involved in the total life, including spirituality, of the universities in England and the church's responsibility to higher education.

Purpose

The purpose of the Newman Club is to bring together interested Catholic and non-Catholic students, along with faculty and staff of the college, to provide outreach that meets college students where they are and invites them into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and the Catholic Faith.  Also to know Christ Jesus, and to fulfill His great commission by first living, and then communicating, the fullness of life within the family of God, the Church.
