Sacred Scripture

"Were not our hearts burning within us!"
Last week we discussed Objective Truth! Does it exist? What is subjectivism? How can we know God exists from the natural world around us, and from the application of our reason to the question of the origin of the universe. Using Thomas Aquinas’s 5 proofs of God’s existence we can know that somewhere there is an intelligent being who was the “Uncaused cause” or the “Prime mover”.
Tonight we talked about who this God is, the fact that He has revealed Himself to us gradually over time, and how that revelation has taken form in part as Sacred Scripture. We talked about the history of Sacred Scripture and from whence it came!
There was some great discussions, and some great question, to which I’ll respond when I’m not so loopy
See you next week!
Blessings,
Amy
PS don’t forget to set up a meeting with me this week or next. Thanks so much!
Conversion
Last Tuesday we watched a video about the conversions of three great Catholics, Stephen Ray, Tim Staples and Johnette Benkovich. Steven and Tim were both anti-Catholic protestants and their conversion is dramatic, to say the least! Listening to these stories helps me to reflect on my own conversion, and how inspired I was at watching a conversion video nine years ago. I remember thinking that I had never dreamed of having the kind of faith displayed in that video, and for the first time, it actually seemed possible. It raised the hairs up on the back of my neck in excitement, and I even with that, I still never imagined the ways that God would come to work in my life. Just amazing!!
This coming Tuesday we will cover Objective Truth; what is truth, and how do we know it exists. We’ll challenge the popular notion of “well that might be true for you, but its not true for me!” Interested? Come see us!
Thoughts on Inquiry Night
I am so in awe of our RCIA Class already this year! Thank you to all who showed up Tuesday night to check out the Catholic Church at St. Joseph. We’re grateful to have you join us on this journey. A special thank you to our hosts this week, Alvina Lenerville and Aldene Steele. How nice to have such gracious ladies kick off our hosting ministry, not to mention the yummy treats!
At Inquiry Night, we mostly talked about the RCIA process, much of which is echoed in your handouts, and also on the RCIA section of this website. Many of us on the RCIA Team have been through this process, starting at all different kinds of points, and we all love to talk about it! Just ask us!! If you have any questions about the night or the program, feel free to post, call or email.
Next week we’ll kick things off with an introduction to the Bible, and we’ll talk about Conversion, that constant turning to Christ to which we are all called.
Also on the RCIA Section of our website, you’ll find some of the flyers which we have distributed to our parish to invite them into our process. Feel free to check them out. \
Looking forward to seeing you next week!
Blessings,
